If Border Force (ABF) order a physical inspection or impose any duties and taxes on this shipment these would also be additional to any quoted rates. Please note: If the goods are bequeathed, inherited, or gifted items, or the client is deemed as not eligible to claim concessional entry of goods via the UPE concession (By-Law No. 1700581), a Self-Assessed Clearance (SAC) or FID (Formal Entry) must be submitted with Australian Border Force. The costs to lodge a SAC is A$150.00 & costs to lodge a FID entry vary from A$600.00 - A$1000.00 (depending on the scope of works required by the Customs Broker). Duty & GST will then be calculated by ABF once documentation has been lodged and payable to ABF to release the shipment. These charges will be advised when known and will be invoiced to either your account or client’s account. Should a FID be required for clearance of the goods, additional charges from DAFF would apply for issue of the required formal Direction to inspect associated with the entry. This charge is A$220.00. If the items are bequeathed a copy of the will or a letter from the executor of the estate must be provided with documentation. Australian Border Force also require a valued inventory of the goods that client is importing to raise any Duty & GST assessments. If any invoices are underpaid due to bank fees, we will bill this back to Agent.
Important Information:
PBO SHIPMENTS – Agent must supply detailed inventory for PBO cartons at least 7 days prior to vessel arrival. PBO shipments will incur extra AUD $250 as they will be subject to 100% inspection upon arrival. All personal effects must be unloaded into an approved bond store for clearance. Therefore, we cannot deliver in lift van/import container directly to client’s residence. All motorised electric scooters and similar, including self-balancing ones, now require a vehicle import approval (or a letter stating that such a permit is not required) from the Department of Infrastructure, which should be obtained prior to despatch. Delays and additional costs are likely to be incurred if any such vehicles are included in the shipment without prior approval. These items will also require a formal entry for clearance to be facilitated. The additional costs for this type of clearance would range from $600.00-$1000.00 via an approved Customs Broker. Duty/GST may also apply upon importation.
Importing Vehicles to Australia:
The Personal Imports Scheme allows migrants settling in Australia, and expatriate Australian citizens returning permanently to Australia after a long period overseas, to bring their personal vehicles with them. Mandatory criteria apply under this scheme and is strictly enforced. If you fail to meet the criteria, you will not be eligible to import a vehicle under the scheme.
CRITERIA: (Applicants must satisfy each of the following ownership requirements).
You must:
· Own the vehicle when submitting the application.
· Have acquired ownership of the vehicle from overseas.
· Have owned the vehicle while overseas.
· Have owned the vehicle for a continuous period of at least 12 months (This is the “qualifying period”).
The qualifying period must have occurred immediately before you (permanently) arrived in Australia.
· The vehicle must have been available to you for use in transport. (This means that the vehicle must have been available to be driven by you, at all times during the 12-month qualifying period).
· The vehicle should be registered (in your name) and garaged (proximate to your residence) throughout the 12-month qualifying period, so that you could, if needed, drive the vehicle.
· In addition, you must have held an appropriate licence to drive the vehicle overseas.
· Applicants must have been a resident in a foreign country (throughout the qualifying period of 12 months’ ownership and use of the vehicle) but now intend to become Australian residents on a permanent basis and remain in Australia indefinitely.
Note. The Personal Imports Scheme only covers individuals. Companies or corporations are not eligible to import a vehicle under the scheme.
Note. The Personal Imports Scheme does not cover temporary Australian residents. Visitors such as tourists, posted diplomatic personnel and posted military personnel are not eligible to import a vehicle under the scheme.
Please Note: The client needs to obtain a Vehicle Import Approval from The Department of Infrastructure prior to shipping the motor vehicles & motorbikes from origin. This can be obtained via the following link - https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/infrastructure-transport-vehicles/vehicles/importing-road-vehicle-australia
ELECTRIC BIKES /SCOOTERS – NON-ROAD MOTORISED ITEMS:
The legislation on brining electric bike, scooters or motorised items that are not for road use into Australia has changed. Clients will need to apply for an advisory notice to bring any Electric bikes, electric scooters, golf carts, mini-bikes, Segway’s, quad bike, golf carts, agricultural machines, and motorised mobility devices into Australia. Clients must apply for the advisory notice as the owner, we cannot apply on the client’s behalf. Applying for an Advisory Notice proves the client has checked with the department that the item has been assessed and is not a road vehicle and as such does not need an import approval.
